I sincerely enjoy and respect the artistic accomplishments of the post-Beatle solo careers of John, Paul, George, and Ringo. However, as great as they can be, these solo recordings can also feel somewhat homogenous when compared to a Beatles album, since three of the four distinct ingredients are necessarily missing by virtue of being a solo album.
The Fabricated series is an attempt to simulate a Beatlesque gestalt with select solo recordings from John, Paul, George and Ringo.
Rather than being assembled with a strict adherence to the year of release, these compilations instead are united along musical themes to sustain a consistent atmosphere. Achieving a coherent flow is one of the biggest challenges in a project like this because the four ex-Beatles' careers diverged post-breakup as they crafted music with disparate sonic textures created with different musicians and producers.
The series captures hit songs, hidden gems and deep cuts culled from various periods when all four musicians were active. The first six compilations — Instant Karma, Gimmie Some Truth, Isn't It a Pity, Love Is Strange, Rock Show, and Let It Roll — encompass the 1970-1975 Apple era prior to Lennon’s sabbatical. The fifth compilation, Just Like Starting Over, draws from the years immediately leading up to and following Lennon’s 1980 return (and untimely passing). The final compilation, Now & Then, gathers songs from across the years to complement the new songs recorded for The Beatles Anthology project.
Each compilation continuously alternates between the four musicians with a runtime of about an hour each (apart from the Rock Show “double album” lasting two hours).
